I find that when I speak to most people about becoming vegan, and I explain the reasons why they should do it, there response, almost 10/10 times, is “I feel like it won’t matter what I do, because I am just one person.”
This is the silliest thing I have ever heard. If everyone thought this about everything, nothing would ever change. Yes, you are just one person. But that’s usually all it takes to get things going; one person making a decision.
I’ve always thought I was powerful enough to change the world around me. I believe my voice matters, my actions critical and my decisions meaningful. Do not tell me yours isn’t, because you are lying to me and yourself.
We are not sheep and yet we tend to follow like them. We act in accordance with what is comfortable and we as a society are apprehensive to opening up our minds. I feel like we are led to believe that we are too small to make a difference, and that is crazy.
I remember when I played softball in high school, I would stay after the games and pick up all the plastic bottles left behind and take them home to recycle them. One day, a teammate asked me what I was doing, and I replied “I’m saving the world.”
I can’t make you find the confidence that is inside you to believe in yourself, but I can inspire you to. Imagine that, one person inspiring you to do something? I hope that I can, too.
One person inspired me to become vegan, but I always knew inside myself that I was influential enough to make a change. I believe that my behavior will reflect on the world around me and forever change the future. I need you to believe the same thing about yourself.
It’s true that once your actions align with your beliefs, you become so powerful, sometimes it might scare you. I don’t want you to be motivated, I want you to be emotionally moved. I want you to believe in yourself and realize that every decision you make from here on out effects you and our world, so make sure its the right one.
Motivation comes and goes in waves, it always does. You can be extremely motivated at 6 am and by 4 pm completely revert back to how you were before motivation set in. This I can’t control, only you can. You have to find the values that lie inside yourself to keep moving forward.
Do not act selfishly; that will get you nowhere in life. Do not be a sheep; for you will never stand apart from the crowd. Do not be afraid to lead; our world needs more rightful leaders. Do not be afraid to make a change and think it will not matter; because it always will.
I am the change I want to see in the world, are you?
